Albanese government to scrap misinformation bill

Sky News can reveal the government will dump its misinformation and disinformation bill after it became clear the Opposition and Greens would oppose the bill in the Senate. A statement from Communications Minister Michelle Rowland, to be released on Sunday, will say, “Based on public statements and engagements with Senators, it is clear that there is no pathway to legislate this proposal through the Senate. “The government will not proceed with the Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2024.”
