Alberta wildfires: Minister Sajjan takes questions about federal response as blazes intensify

Canada's Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan and Alberta's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis took questions from media on Thursday to address the federal response to the wildfires currently ravaging Alberta. "All levels of government will be making sure that they get the support that they need," Sajjan said. In the wake of the wildfires, the federal government convened an Incident Response Group meeting to discuss the situation and what actions should be taken to help the province. This comes as the townsite of Jasper, Alta., has been about 50 per cent destroyed as a result of the wildfires, and numerous evacuation orders have been issued across Alberta and B.C. Earlier Thursday, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith appeared visibly shaken as she provided remarks on the "out-of-control" fire engulfing the town of Jasper. “We have all seen on the news and social media the horrific pictures and videos coming out of Jasper. Homes and businesses have been lost to a wildfire that people are calling a ‘wall of flames.’ There is no denying that this is the worst nightmare for any community.… Jasper, we will continue to stand by you,” Smith said.
