Alberta wildfires: Premier Smith, officials provide update on Jasper and evacuations | LIVE

Alongside various officials, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is set to deliver an update on the province’s ongoing wildfire situation. The Thursday update comes as 176 wildfires burn across the province, with four of major note, in the Cattail Lake, Kettle River, Semo and Algar Lake complexes. Additionally, the situation in Jasper worsened on Wednesday to the point that a wildfire entered the townsite and prompted the evacuation of 25,000 people in Jasper National Park. The mayor of the Municipality of Jasper extended “heartfelt sympathy and solidarity” in response. Earlier Wednesday, Parks Canada confirmed multiple buildings in the mountainous tourist community in western Alberta were impacted. Smith will be joined by Alberta’s Minister of Forestry and Parks Todd Loewen, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis and Alberta Wildfire information unit manager Christie Tucker.
