All nations can help to reduce US-China tensions, says IISS-Asia exec director
The United States and Chinese defence chiefs on Friday (May 31) held their first substantive face-to-face talks in 18 months at the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. The premier defence summit, held by independent think tank International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), runs from Friday to Sunday. IISS-Asia’s executive director Veerle Nouwens told CNA’s Asia First that there is a role for all countries to “play an effective role” and “try and aid in bringing down tensions”.
