Protestors who stood along with American Aysenur Eygi in the West Bank said they were demonstrating against Israeli settlements when the Israeli Defense Forces opened fire on them with live rounds on Sept. 6. One of the protesters, who wanted to remain anonymous, is part of the protest group Faz3a and told CGTN America that he was standing only 15 feet from Eygi when she was shot. He said he was hiding behind a dumpster believing he was safe when a bullet hit the dumpster and then another before he saw Eygi, who was hiding in some olive trees, "crumple to the ground" about 15 feet from him. "They were intentionally shooting at us," he said. The IDF wrote on their official Telegram account that they fired rounds at the group after people violently threw rocks at them. They said they are currently looking into reports that a foreign national was killed. The White House said they were "deeply disturbed" by her death and they have asked Israel for more information and an investigation into the incident. Eygi, 26, still had a slight pulse before she was rushed to a hospital in Nablus, the protestor said. She was later pronounced dead. She graduated from the University of Washington and had served as a peer mentor. The Turkish-American was a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement which supports Palestinian farmers. She had only been in the West Bank for three days. This was her first demonstration in the West Bank that she had participated in, the protester said. #WestBank #AysenurEygi #Palestine #Settlements #IDF #Israel #israelidefenseforces Watch CGTN LIVE on your computer, tablet or mobile https://cgtnamerica.vhx.tv/videos/hd-live-broadcasts Subscribe to CGTN America on YouTube Follow CGTN America: Twitter: @cgtnamerica Facebook: @cgtnamerica Instagram: @cgtnamerica TikTok: @newstoks This material is distributed by MediaLinks TV, LLC on behalf of CCTV.
