Andrea Nichols laid to rest
Family, friends and members of the hockey fraternity gathered at Restoration Ministries, in Brittons Hill today to bid farewell to Andrea Nichols. Affectionately known as 'Ms. Nic' or 'Mummy Nic', Nichols, who passed away last month at the age of 70, was a former national hockey player, international umpire, coach, and retired Physical Education Officer of the Ministry of Education. Her outstanding skills as a goalkeeper at the national level enabled the Barbados Women's Hockey team to earn a bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in 1980, held in Mexico. In tribute, President of her beloved Empire Club Melvin "Ibo" Oxley said Nichols positively impacted many lives in Barbados. Nichols was also remembered by friend Rossana Warner as a talent scout in Barbados. The interment was held at the Westbury Cemetery.
