Argentina's urban indigence peaked at 11.9 percent in the second half of 2023, the highest in nearly 20 years. Rising inflation in Argentina is largely responsible for the surge in extreme poverty, leaving many unable to afford basic food. Children under 14 are hit hardest, with nearly 60 percent living in poverty, and 19 percent unable to meet basic food needs.
