Arkansas' voting crisis: Low turnout and registration spark concern, call for solutions

Chul Park Ph.D. who is an associate professor at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, and a primary author of the study, said there are two factors for low voter turnout. "Arkansas expressed a very low level of public trust in the federal government," Park said. "We identified barriers to voting including the long wait time at the polling stations [and] lack of transportation." Park noted there are a few main suggestions that could help spark participation long-term including more effort from government to educate and engage their citizens. "[The first is] providing more information, better information to citizens," Park said. "The second, provide them more opportunity for them to share and provide their input to the government."
