Arkansas poultry company closure leaves farmers high and dry, 1.3 million birds euthanized

Fallout from the closure of Northwest Arkansas poultry company Cooks Venture in November 2023 continues to affect farmers who had contracts with the company. Poultry growers say mismanagement and miscommunication from both the company and the Arkansas Department of Agriculture has left them to deal with the company's mess. Late last year, the state euthanized about 1.3 million chickens being grown under contract by poultry growers for Decatur-based Cooks Venture.
