Arouca/Maloney Constituency Hosts Free Flea Market
A free flea market was held for members of the Arouca/Maloney Constituency on Saturday at the Red Hill Community Centre. In preparation for the upcoming festive Christmas season, residents of the constituency were happy grab good quality household items, clothes, and children's items. The flea market was hosted by Minister of Housing and Urban Development and Member of Parliament for Arouca/Maloney, Camille Robinson-Regis, in collaboration with the constituency's Welfare Committee and Councillor for Mausica/Maloney, Stephan Wattley. According to Mr. Wattley, this initiative was birthed from the desire to highlight the spirit of Christmas sharing. "As soon as we open the door, all residents would have taken full advantage of this initiative and as you can see, most of the items are almost gone." This is the second time this event was organised and executed, and according to MP Camille Robinson-Regis, both were very successful. "Instead of it being a flea market where people have to pay for items, yes at a lower price, what we have is you can come for the items and you take them. You have a limit but they are free. You don't have to pay anything, not one cent. So we try to make sure there are household items. We also have clothing. We also have crockery, pottery. We also have pots and pans, but all in good order." The MP also highlighted another highly-anticipated event, the Constituency's Children's Christmas party, which will be held at the Clayton Ince Grounds in Maloney. She said 1,000 children were catered for last year and this year, the event will be bigger and better. "Each child will get a gift. Santa will be there. We're having horse rides. We'll be having the NALIS, the library always comes and supports us so we'll be having story time. We have face painting. We'll also have a magician who will be coming. We're going to have bouncy castles. We're having everything that the children can enjoy, and food galore." Other activities will include an Annual Senior Citizens Dinner and various hamper distribution programmes.
