Although these carpets are famous among experts, the craft of weaving them nearly disappeared during the 20th century after factories started producing cheaper alternatives. That all changed when Ryan Smith started reWoven, a project to revive Borchalo carpet weaving traditions in Georgia. Thanks to recent projects, more young people have started to learn how to weave these carpets by hand, helping this unique craft to survive in Georgia.
