Groups representing taxi and private-hire car drivers say they are prepared to work with authorities, and platforms to improve the livelihoods of drivers. Some are working up to 14 hours per day, causing the associations to raise concerns about their safety. Twelve hours is the daily limit recommended by a workplace safety and health council. Drivers also claim that earnings have dropped by 30 per cent over the past six months. CNA speaks with Terence Fan, Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at SMU. He speaks about balancing the needs of drivers and commuters, and how a recently passed Bill supporting platform workers might help in their welfare.
