At least 13 killed in an Israeli strike on Nuseirat camp in Gaza
At least 13 Palestinians were killed in Nuseirat camp in Gaza following an Israeli airstrike late on Monday (September 30). The bodies were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah on Tuesday (October 1). Some Palestinians said they feared that Israel's shift in focus to Lebanon could prolong the conflict in Gaza, which marks its first anniversary next week. “We fear that the whole world will focus on Lebanon and leave the occupation (Israel) to do what it wants in Gaza and commit its massacres and invasions in Gaza,” said Hassan al-Hor. "We hope that the war in Lebanon to be limited and stop soon because if the occupation invaded in Lebanon, it will be given free reign in Gaza without media focus, international organisations or the United Nations,” Al-Hor added. Another strike on a school sheltering displaced Palestinian families in the Tuffah neighbourhood killed at least seven people, Palestinian medics added. The Israeli military said in a statement the air strike targeted Hamas militants operating from a command centre embedded in a compound that had previously served as Al-Shejaia School. The renewed surge in violence in Gaza comes as Israel began a ground operation in Lebanon, saying its paratroopers and commandos were engaged in intense fighting with Iran-backed Hezbollah. The conflict follows devastating Israeli airstrikes against Hezbollah's leadership. (Production: Ramadan Abed, Bassam Masoud, Kinda Makieh)
