Australia ‘going to have to’ incorporate nuclear into grid
UNSW nuclear minerals engineer Dr Edward Obbard says Australia is “going to have to” shift to a grid which incorporates nuclear energy. Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen has criticised the Coalition’s nuclear costings as a national embarrassment. Mr Bowen says Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is reckless and risky for assuming Australia will use less energy by 2050. “I think that this sort of deadlineism we have, as in saying nuclear is too slow, is actually a form of procrastination because given that in the future we’re going to have to shift to a grid that is nuclear and renewables, surely the only thing to do is to start as soon as you can,” Mr Obbard told Sky News Australia. “Not starting because you’re worried you won’t be done by 2030 or 2050 is basically procrastination, isn’t it?
