Australia has proposed banning social media for youth under 16, but can it work?
Australia proposed legislation this week that would see those under 16 forbidden from holding an account on multiple social media platforms like X, TikTok and Facebook. The bill is being touted by the government as a way to improve online safety for kids, and it's not the first government to propose ways to curb social media for youth though it is more stringent than some like France or Canada. But as Global's Sean Previl reports, experts say a full ban won't be effective, in part due to how tech-savvy kids are but there are other things governments and companies can do to ensure kids' safety online.
