Australia set to see severe heatwave one week before Christmas

A severe heatwave is set to impact large parts of Australia from this weekend through to next week. A hot airmass above Australia's north will be pulled towards the southeast by a wide low-pressure trough bringing with it a prolonged period of extreme heat. Temperatures in most states and territories are expected to climb into the low to mid-forties.
