Australian's 'paying the price' amid increasing migration

Shadow Immigration Minister Dan Tehan says Australian families and businesses are "paying the price" following an increase in population numbers. It comes in the wake of new figures revealed the population officially surpassed 27 million last week, largely due to overseas migration. Labor has repeatedly said they're going to rein in these numbers however, with last Thursday's figures they have already hit 98 per cent of their net migration target for the fiscal year, with another quarter to go. “They said that they were going to meet their commitments and it's absolutely clear that they're not going to,” Mr Tehan said. “The important point to remember here is that is adding to the pressures on Australian families and on small businesses in this country because the Reserve Bank has said the government cannot get immigration under control. "It's another complete and utter mess and the sad thing about this is it's Australian families and businesses that are paying the price."
