Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton has criticised Australian politicians who went into a “complete meltdown” after X owner Elon Musk refused to take down a video of a violent stabbing. eSafety commissioner Julie Inman Grant took X to court after she issued an order to have videos and images of the violent attack removed from the internet, but the platform did not comply. X has restricted the video in Australia; however, government lawyers argued the video can still be viewed overseas or domestically via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek and Senator Jacqui Lambie both hit out at X and its owner over their decision. The Prime Minister also called out the billionaire’s “ego”. The main victim of the stabbing, Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, came out after the alleged attack to say he is “not against” the video remaining on social media. “When the primary victim in the case doesn’t want it censored, what on earth are these politicians doing?” Mr Houghton said.
