Authorities aim to restore full train services on East-West Line on Monday
Singapore's transport authorities aim to restore full service on the East-West Line on Monday. Earlier, they had intended to restore service on one track between Jurong East and Buona Vista to provide a shuttle train. That will no longer happen to speed up repairs toward full recovery. It all started when a train over 35 years old became faulty and returned to Ulu Pandan depot. On its way, one of its parts fell off near Dover. The wheels came off the running rail, cracking the track in 34 places. By the time it was noticed something was wrong, the damage was spread across 1.6 kilometres toward Clementi. Meantime, all the other first-generation trains have been inspected for the same part that fell off. There are 48 such trains running on the North-South and East-West lines. Richa Mathew reports.
