B'dos Diabetes Foundation receives monetary donation
The Rotary Club of Barbados has made a donation to the Barbados Diabetes Foundation, which officials say will go a long way. The $22,558.36 cheque forms part of funds collected through a $1,000,000 project undertaken by the Rotary Club for non-communicable diseases. General Manager of the Barbados Diabetes Foundation Marsha White-Hughes explains the funds will be used to purchase a much-needed autoclave to sterilise equipment used in the treatment of diabetic patients. Further, Ms. White-Hughes says there are over 60,000 diagnosed cases of people living with the NCD. She says type 2 diabetes is the biggest problem in Barbados, and encourages those over 35 to get tested. Past President of the Rotary Club, Ermine Darroux-Francis says the 2023 Bridgetown Initiative called on entities like Rotary to help stem the fight against NCDs.
