B.C. group proposes railway to connect most of the South Coast
Trams once connected most of the Lower Mainland. The Westminster and Vancouver Electric Tramway line spanned more than 20 kilometres, with stops between Vancouver and New Westminster. Other trams ran even farther into the Fraser Valley, with the longest line making the run between New West and Chilliwack. Eventually the rising popularity of cars and buses brought an end to tram service in the 1950s, the rails to rubber movement. But now a new non-profit is imploring municipalities to consider a well connected rail network once again. Lee Haber is a transportation planner and the Technical Lead for the group, which calls itself MVX. He joined us for an interview.
