Baltimore bridge collapse could push other ports to reassess own infrastructure: Expert

While national infrastructure typically meet the safety standards of their time, the increasing size of vessels over the decades calls for fresh considerations for ports and waterways, civil and structural engineer Julian Carter tells CNA’s World Tonight. The Francis Scott Key Bridge, which opened in 1977, had collapsed on Tuesday (Mar 26) after being struck by a Singapore-flagged container ship. The accident will make many ports, harbours and governments reassess the strength of their own structures, says Mr Carter, director of British firm By Julian Limited.
