Barbadian on global youth climate adaptation panel
A Barbadian is listed among 12 young leaders from around the world who have made it on the Youth Advisory Panel of the CEO of the Global Centre on Adaptation. Ashley Lashley's selection follows an open call for applications at the end of 2023. The 12 were selected from over 700 applications from 108 countries, based on their experiences in national adaptation action as well as their decision making processes. Lashley, the current Barbados Youth Ambassador to CARICOM and founder of the Ashley Lashley Foundation, will serve on the panel for a year to advise Professor Dr. Patrick Verkooijen on how to take forward the climate adaptation agenda. Given the vulnerability of small island states like Barbados, she tells CBC News she intends to advocate for robust climate resilience and adaptation measures during her tenure.
