Barbadians are keen on learning to swim and are taking advantage of classes offered by the National Sports Council. Since expanding its Swim 4 Life programme to accommodate citizens 40 years and over, the response has been overwhelming. As of Wednesday, 200 people have already signed up for both the children's and masters programmes. The swim programme for children commences on Monday and will run for three weeks. The masters will get underway on September 9 and end on November 19. Speaking on Morning Barbados Coordinator, Tracey Leacock said the programme has been a success. Second in Command Supervisor of Lifeguards at the National Conservation Commission, Rawle Eversley says while participants in the masters expressed confidence in the programme, some are nervous to take to the sea. He says there are a number of reasons for them to take up swimming.
