A health official is urging Barbadians to do their part to stem the spread of the deadly dengue virus. Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Arthur Phillips says fogging is vital in treating to eradicating the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito. While noting the method is no silver bullet, he says it has its role in the fight against dengue. He adds that the partnership between the general public, the business sector and the Ministry of Health is important, as everyone needs to play their role in eliminating potential breeding sites. Meanwhile, Dr. Phillips says the dengue outbreak reported earlier this year is currently under control and cases are trending downward. Dr. Phillips says health officials note a recent report from the Pan American Health Organisation which cautioned about a surge in dengue cases in the Americas. The report states that as of March 26, over 3.5 million cases and more than 1000 deaths have been reported in the region, but Dr. Phillips says local health officials are dealing with the issue.
