Barbadians warned to brace for shipping challenges
Barbadians are being warned to brace for challenges with shipping out of the US, due to planned industrial action at some us ports. Word of this came from Managing Director of Jaremya Shipping, Dennis Sobers. He told the Business Report those involved in shipping and logistics, as well as their customers, should prepare for what is to come. Port workers who are members of the International Longshoremen's Association went on strike in October but agreed to suspend the action until January 15, 2025, to allow for negotiations with the United States Maritime Alliance. Major disagreements have caused those negotiations to stall, increasing the likelihood of further strike action next month.
