Barbados' economy remains resilient
In the face of several challenges, Barbados' economy has remained resilient, continuing its recovery with strong performances in the tourism and construction sectors. This according to Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Ryan Straughn as he delivered a Ministerial Statement on the performance of the first half of the fiscal year 2024/2025 in the Lower House. He says the two sectors have driven economic growth and created employment opportunities. Minister Straughn says total revenue for the period amounted to 1.87 billion dollars - exceeding the forecast of 1.66 billion by 12.5%. The revised forecast for total expenditure now stands at 3.78 billion. Total Government expenditure for the first six months of the 2024/2025 fiscal year stood at 1.70 billion - below the forecast of 1.763 billion. Insight was also provided into Barbados' total public debt. Statistics provided by Minister Straughn showed as of September 30, 2024 it stood at 14.878 billion.
