Barbados' newest centenarian celebrated
In just over 24 hours Barbados will be joining the rest of the world in celebrating the start of a new year. However for the Oxley family household celebrations are ongoing for the birthday of their matriarch, Cecile Oxley who turned 100 years yesterday. Along with family and friends, the momentous occasion was shared with Acting President the Very Reverend Dean Jeffrey Gibson who paid a courtesy call on the family and made several presentations in acknowledgement of the occasion. Ms. Oxley's son Milton says his mother was born in Miccoud, St. Lucia and has been living in Barbados for over fifty years. She was a registered nurse and mid wife. Mr. Oxley says his mom is in good health except for a niggling arthritis, with all her faculties intact. He says he, along with his two other siblings, celebrated her milestone with a dinner at Champers Restaurant with over 40 friends and family. Mr. Oxley says his mom is a hearty eater who loves Bajan breadfruit.
