Barbados assumes presidency of OLADE
Barbados' Minister of Energy and Business Senator Lisa Cummins has assumed the presidency of the hemispheric body Latin American Energy Organisation (OLADE). In accepting the role for 2024-2025, Senator Cummins committed the hemispheric body to ensuring that the unique and specific energy-transitioning issues facing the Caribbean are integrated fully into the work of the Organisation. She also pointed out that within OLADE, there are sub-regional differences that need to be captured within clear, defined work programmes on the way forward. Senator Cummins says conversations on countries engaged in energy transitioning, while others are experiencing energy crises, are also on the table as an important issue. This will take prominence as Senator Cummins chairs the Organisation and Ministerial Council, which is a significant contributor to the sustainable development and energy security of the region.
