Barbados calls for continued capitalisation of Loss and Damage Fund

Barbados' Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is pressing for the continued capitalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund. That historic breakthrough was made at the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 at the end of 2022 and approved at COP28 in Dubai. Currently, Ms. Mottley notes it has not even met one billion in capital. Equally important for the Barbadian leader is adaptation funding. Ms. Mottley's comments came in a video address at a Global Leaders Forum organised by UN Trade and Development. It's being held under the theme "Charting a New Development Course in a Changing World". Ms. Mottley stated that Barbados, like all small island developing states, has been dealt a difficult hand in dealing with inherent vulnerabilities.
