Barbados makes strides in reducing recidivism rate
Barbados has made some strides in bringing down its recidivism rate. So says Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General with Responsibility for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane. There have been concerns about the island's high re-offending rate over time. According to Minister Lane, the information is contained in a recent study. While appearing on CBC TV8's Mornin' Barbados, the Minister says there are a number of reasons for the fall. According to Mr. Lane, despite the research and crime fighting recommendations and the many programmes to assist over the years, Barbados has fallen short with respect to implementation. He says there has been a lot of talking and little monitoring over the last 30 years. The National Peace Programme has been introduced to assist in this regard.
