Barbados partners with Ireland to expand marine research
Barbados is expanding research into its marine space and it will be getting help from Ireland. The European country will be sending a vessel to Barbados to conduct a survey of the area. Government and the Marine Institute of Ireland signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the undertaking, which is scheduled to begin in August. Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn says the Barbados Environmental Sustainability Fund will finance the project. Vessel Operations Manager at the Marine Institute of Ireland, Aodhan Fitzgerald says as part of Ireland's Small Island Developing States programme, personnel from the Coastal Zone Management Unit visited Ireland late last year and received hands on training on board a research vessel.
