Bashar al-Assad denies ‘planned’ Syria departure, says he wanted to fight

Syria’s toppled leader Bashar al-Assad said in an unverified statement that he was evacuated to Russia from the Khmeimim airbase in Syria on the evening of December 8 as it came under drone attacks, after leaving Damascus that morning with opposition fighters closing in.
