BDF, QEH personnel trained in hyperbaric medicine
At least 15 personnel from the Barbados Defence Force and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital are being trained in hyperbaric medicine thanks to Canada. This as the four-day Diving Medicine Training Course, rolled out by the BDF in collaboration with the Canadian Armed Forces, is underway at St. Ann's Fort. It comes on the heels of last month's recertification of the Hyperbaric Chamber. Apart from providing quick access to professional medical care for diving casualties, Accident and Emergency Physician, Dr. Lisa Holder notes it will be vital in treating other conditions. Command Surgeon of the Canadian Joint Operations Command, Commander Michael Montague, is the Lead Facilitator of the training. He explained the importance of the course. The Hyperbaric Dive Medical Training is the latest in a series of CAF-supported collaborative learning engagements with the BDF before Exercise Tradewinds 2024. Canada's High Commissioner to Barbados, Lilian Chatterjee, has been shedding light on what her country has been doing to date.
