Sky News US analyst Michael Ware has praised Jimmy Carter as a “beloved American treasure”, hailing the former US leader as the “peace president”. James ‘Jimmy’ Earl Carter Junior died at the age of 100 in Plains, Georgia. He was the longest-living former United States president. “It is safe to say that president Jimmy Carter was a beloved American treasure on both sides of the political divide,” Mr Ware told Sky News Australia. “In many ways, he was the peace president. “President Carter took the Oval Office at a time of incredible tension and division in this country.” Mr Carter’s son, Chip Carter, confirmed his father’s passing on Sunday local time.
