Benefits of regional debt-for-climate swap highlighted

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is touting the benefits of a regional debt-for-climate swap. Barbados signed such an agreement in September 2022, allowing the country to divert existing debt service to address challenges created by the climate crisis. Over the next 15 years, the island is expected to save 50 million US dollars. Speaking during an interview with the IMF Today programme, Ms. Mottley suggested the model could be expanded to CARICOM.
