Biden: Israel-Lebanon ceasefire deal designed to be ‘permanent’

US President Joe Biden says a ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon which has been accepted is designed to be a “permanent cessation of hostilities”. Under the proposal, Hezbollah will withdraw its troops from the north of the Litani River, approximately 30 kilometres from the Israeli border, and the IDF will pull back its forces from Lebanese territory. “Under the deal reached today, effective at 4am tomorrow local time, the fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border will end,” Mr Biden said. “This is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.”
