The Supreme Court of India on Monday said that the petition filed by Bilkis Bano challenging the early release of of 11 convicts was maintainable. The apex court added that the State of Gujarat was not competent to pass the remission orders in the Bilkis Bano case.SC says that one of the convicts had suppressed facts and misled the apex court which had asked Gujarat govt to decide remission plea in 2022. SC says that Gujarat govt did not have jurisdiction to decide remission plea of convicts in Bilkis Bano as they were convicted in a court in Maharashtra.
