Birth tourism a key concern
Concerns over possible abuse of new citizenship and immigration laws has prompted Government to revisit the draft legislation. This was revealed by Acting Attorney General Wilfred Abrahams during last night's Parish Speaks in St. Peter, in response to a query about plans to allow more people of Barbadian descent access to citizenship. Minister Abrahams says birth tourism is a key concern. This refers to the practice of travelling to another country or city for the purpose of giving birth in that country, and obtaining citizenship for the child.
