Black Nazarene procession returns to Philippines for first time after pandemic pause
One of the biggest events in the Roman Catholic calendar is back after a three-year hiatus, due to the pandemic. The procession of the Black Nazarene, an image of Jesus Christ believed by some followers to possess healing powers, draws millions of devotees every year. The statue was enclosed in glass for the first time, but it did not deter believers from trying to get as close to it as possible. Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Lo reports from Manila.
