NASA and Boeing are providing an update on their ongoing evaluations of the Starliner's propulsion system on Friday before its return to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS). The scheduled date has been pushed back several times due to technical issues. Boeing's Starliner spacecraft successfully launched on its third attempt to fly astronauts to space for the first time on June 5th, a much-delayed testing milestone after last-minute issues pushed back the first two crewed launch attempts. The U.S. astronauts, Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams, lifted off in the capsule as a final demonstration to obtain routine flight certification from NASA. Boeing intends for Starliner to compete with SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule, which since 2020 has been NASA's only vehicle for sending ISS crew members to orbit from U.S. soil.
