Brazil bridge collapse: Tanker truck spills sulfuric acid into Tocantins river, 2 confirmed dead
At least two people are confirmed dead and dozens of people are missing after a bridge connecting two states in northern and northeastern Brazil collapsed Sunday, police said. The collapse sent a tanker truck careening into the Tocantins river, spilling sulfuric acid into the water. A city councilman, Elias Junior, had been filming a video pointing out a crack on the shoulder of the bridge, when it collapsed in front of him. The Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira Bridge is part of the BR-226 Highway, which connects the federal capital of Brasilia to Belem, a northern city set to host the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference next year.
