Burger-flipping robots prepare UBC engineering students for future jobs

To get ready for their future jobs, a group of University of British Columbia (UBC) Engineering students is learning to flip burgers — through robots. Shuyu van Kerkwijk and Benedikt Howard are two second-year engineering students at UBC and the creators of ‘Bernadette’ the robot. UBC's annual robot competition is actually a final exam, where teams work for about six weeks to build autonomous robots from scratch. This year, the contest was to assemble mock meals out of plastic fast food ingredients. As Paul Johnson explains, it may be the way of the future — that's not quite here yet.
