The proposed legislation to make businesses receiving concessions more accountable for how they treat workers continues to be a major talking point tonight. The Barbados Workers' Union has taken issue with comments yesterday by the Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association (BPSA) on labour issues and the proposed legislation. Chairman of the BPSA Trisha Tannis said they believe the proposed legislation should have been a last resort adding that they remain unaware of any significant prevalence of any employee mistreatment within these sectors that would warrant this legislation. BWU General Secretary Toni Moore however, calls the BPSA remarks disheartening. According to Ms. Moore, this situation is a classic representation of the age-old divide between the haves and the have-nots.
