The People's National Movement's candidate in the Lengua/Indian Walk bye election has swept to victory over the United National Congress' Nicole Gopaul and the Independent contender, Peterson Morales. On the announcement of his victory to his supporters on Monday night, Pastor Granthume was asked how he would feel as the lone PNM representative on the Princes Town Regional Corporation Council. Campaign Coordinator Paula Gopee-Scoon and Minister of Local Government, Faris Al-Rawi, were on hand with Pastor Granthume's supporters to share in the victory celebrations. The PNM's unofficial count showed Pastor Granthume won the Lengua/Indian Walk district with a convincing 700 votes over Ms. Gopaul and Mr. Morales. The Election and Boundaries Commission is expected to issue the final results later today. Elsewhere, even tough PNM Candidate Anderson Nanan and his family were among the first to cast their vote, it is the UNC's Sarah Sookdeo who will represent Quinam/Morne Diablo in the Borough of Siparia. Her party leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, was on hand to celebrate the achievement with her. The bye election became necessary following the passing of Quinam/Morne Diablo Council Member Diptee Ramnath in December 2023.
