Calgary security guard assault raises concerns over mental health, addiction responsibilities

Calgary security guard Kim Belair-Prevost says she was doing her normal morning rounds in the Beltline community on Aug. 19, 2024 when she was assaulted. A man was sleeping near some loading dock doors, but when Belair-Prevost asked him to move on he got aggressive. “I was running for the door, but he caught me beside my own vehicle and started assaulting me.” Now she is raising concerns about the responsibility being put on private security guards when it comes to addiction and mental health.
