A fast-spreading wildfire in northern California has engulfed over 2,000 acres, driven by dry conditions and high winds. The blaze, known as the Thompson wildfire, originally started in a sparsely populated area but has since advanced towards the town of Oroville, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents. California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency in Butte County on Wednesday to support the response to the Thompson Fire. "It's one of many fires we've seen in one of the most active fire seasons we've had in years," Newsom said. Evacuation orders have expanded to include East Oroville and other unincorporated communities as the fire continues to pose a serious threat to homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. Firefighters from across the state have been mobilized to combat the blaze, as authorities work to determine the cause. Residents are being urged to comply with evacuation orders and stay informed through official channels as the situation unfolds.
