Call for alternative forms of discipline
A UN Child Rights Expert is calling for a public campaign to teach Barbadians how to discipline children without corporal punishment. Faith Marshall-Harris who sits on the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child says its policy position is that corporal punishment should be banned in as many countries as possible. While acknowledging that it will not be an overnight task in Barbados, she has suggested the country must start educating the public on how to eliminate it. Ms. Marshall-Harris has however, admitted that introducing alternative forms of discipline will be easier in younger children.
