There has been a recommendation to put measures in place to allow for the proposed new Constitution to undergo periodic reviews going forward. This suggestion is among several that have been outlined in a report submitted to Government by the Constitution Reform Commission. Commission Chairman retired High Court Justice Christopher Blackman shared some of the recommendations with the public during a meeting to formally present the report and Draft Constitution of Barbados Bill 2024. Moreover, the chairman says the commission recommends that the public service appeal board, which he says has been lingering on the statute books, should be operationalised and equipped to execute its function. The report also recommends the President of Barbados should no longer be required to assent to legislation. A summary of the recommendations can be found in Chapter 12 of the report, pages 261 to 300.
