Call for regulation on amount of sea eggs that can be harvested
An independent senator is calling for legislation to guide sea egg harvesting, both within and outside of the legal fishing windows. The call from Senator Christopher Maynard, who was speaking during the debate on the Maritime and Underwater Heritage Bill, 2024. He says apart from setting a season for fishing the delicacy, there has been no regulation on the quantity that can be harvested. Further Senator Maynard says it is important not to destroy the island's relics and then seek to preserve them. He's pleased with Government's plans to formalise the preservation of the island's lighthouses.
